75 years ago

(1938)

Mrs. G.W. Williams and her mother, Mrs. J.M. Layton, entertained Friday at the Country Club for the regular weekly afternoon bridge party. Blooming pot-plants and vases of chrysanthemums were arranged in the salon where games of bridge were played at four tables. The club prize was won by Mrs. Carl E. Moore and the guest prize by Mrs. Sam Heiligers. A delicious salad course with tea was served at the social period. A table was filled with tea guests.

50 years ago

(1963)

A group of Conway High School students will appear at the annual Chamber of Commerce membership banquet to be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hendrix College. The group doesn’t have a name, but at least four of them have been singing together for more than a year. They are Mary Louise Doyle, Marilyn Tackett, Walter Lindsey, Carolyn Fagan and Suzy Mabry. Young Mabry joined the group only recently. About 400 persons are expected to attend the membership meeting.

Cecil and Cora Adams of Greenbrier will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary and Dr. Mike and Sharon Rapp of Conway will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary at a reception from 1 to 3 p.m. tomorrow at Peace Lutheran Church, Donaghey Avenue and Hartje Lane. Me. and Mrs. Adams were married Dec. 22, 1938, in Little Rock. They are parents of a son, Cecil Adams II of Palm Springs, Calif. Dr. and Mrs. Rapp were married Dec. 23, 1963. They are parents of two daughters, Inga and Gretchen, both of Conway.

Jeff Bell, a 10th-grader in the Conway School District, recently was named Young Volunteer of the Year by the Arkansas Department of Aging.

Bell received the award at a ceremony at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.

Bell volunteered more than 100 hours during Camp Learn A Lot, a four-week summer program for elementary students in the district.

He is a son of Philip and Annette Bell.
