The Community Action Program for Central Arkansas in Conway is seeking donations again this year to assist with the purchase of turkeys for the Holiday Food Box distribution that is held annually. They are also seeking donations of food items. Each year in December, in conjunction with the quarterly Commodity Distribution, CAPCA distributes 250 Holiday Food Boxes to low income, elderly and disabled individuals in Faulkner County.
Last year the Holiday Food Box distribution was a huge success. With the monetary and food donations from the people of Faulkner County, they were able to distribute 250 Holiday Food Boxes filled with a 10-12 lb. turkey, corn, green beans, stuffing mix, macaroni and cheese, cornbread mix, brownie mix, cranberry sauce, and yams to low income, elderly and disabled individuals around Faulkner County.
According to the latest figures from the United States Department of Agriculture, at 19.2 percent, Arkansas is tied with Mississippi as having the highest rate of food insecurities in the nation. A recent feature on a Little Rock newscast, said Arkansas was #1 in hunger. Arkansas also ranks #1 in Senior Hunger. CAPCA is looking to make the 2013 Holiday Food Box Distribution an even greater success than last year.
They are currently seeking community partners from individuals, church groups, civic organizations and local businesses in and around Faulkner County that can make monetary donations, donate food or volunteer for distribution.
