Mr. and Mrs. E.V. Barton of Greenbrier entertained at their home last Friday evening with a farewell party and miscellaneous shower, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cato. There were 80 guests present.

Mr. and Mrs. Cato will leave soon to make their home at Mountain View.

50 years ago


Jerry Woodward, son of Mr. and Mrs. Faber Woodward, has been elected president of the Vilonia Future Farmers of America chapter.

Other offices include Freddy Ramsey, vice president; Wayne Hendricks, secretary; Jimmie Simmons, treasurer; Eddie Sellers, centinel; Charles Mize, junior adviser; Jimmie F. Harris, reporter; and Kenneth Mize, parliamentarian.

Susan Oliver, daughter of Warren and Jenny Oliver of Conway, was named a 1988 homecoming maid at the University of Central Arkansas.

Miss Oliver is a sophomore at UCA and was sponsored by Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity. The homecoming royalty was honored Saturday during activities at the university.

National Merit Semifinalists from Conway High School-West include Vicky Littleton, Kinsey Stewart, Lindsay Irion, Matt Lammers, Jeff Coulter, Neil Kopper, Clark Smith, Bryant Howell and Charles Lott.

These high school seniors have an opportunity to compete for 8,000 merit scholarship awards, worth $32 million, that will be offered in the spring.

Trojans slip past UCA in OT

LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock’s Jaclyn Purvine scored a golden goal in the 95th minute, dribbling through the UCA midfield and sliding the ball into the top-right corner, just past the outstretched fingers of a diving Lauren Mercuri to give the Trojans a 2-1 overtime victory Friday night in the soccer opener for the University of Central Arkansas women.
