SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The University of Central Arkansas women’s soccer team came from behind for a 3-2 two-overtime victory Sunday over Incarnate Word.
Lauren Truehart scored the golden goal for the victory on a free kick for the Bears (6-4-2, 3-1). The Cardinals fell to 8-4, 2-3.
Other goals from the Bears came from Sara Perlman and Kristin Pollar.
UCA MEN’S SOCCER
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — SIU-Edwardsville took a 2-1 overtime victory over the UCA men in the Bears’ Missouri Valley Conference opener Saturday night.
SIUE (5-5-0, 1-0-0 MVC) took the lead in the 44th minute, when Andrew Kendall-Moullin took a pass from Gabe Christianson and slotted it inside of the far post to put the Cougars up 1-0. Central Arkansas (4-6-1, 0-1-0 MVC) got an equalizer in the 66th minute, as Wes Carson received a through ball from Logan Miller and slammed it home from 15 yards out to even the game at 1-1.
Lewis Ellis gave SIUE the golden goal two minutes into overtime, heading home a cross from Justin Bilyeu to give the Cougars the 2-1 victory.
HENDRIX WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
DANVILLE, Ky. — Centre College took a straight set victory, 25-21, 25-18, 25-15 over the Hendrix volleyball team here Sunday.
Centre (13-2, 6-1) hit .287 with 42 kills, six aces, 46 digs and nine blocks, while Hendrix (11-9, 2-5) hit .121 with 30 kills, one ace, 40 digs and three blocks.
Senior outside hitter Katie Burchfield led the Warriors on offense by hitting .407 with 13 kills.
Saturday at Sewanee, Tenn., Sewanee took a 25-20, 25-16, 22-25, 14-25, 15-13 victory over Hendrix.
Bellevue University took a 3-1 victory over the Central Baptist College men’s soccer team in its Midland Conference opener Saturday.
The Mustangs fell to 2-7, 0-1 while Bellevue is 4-7, 1-0.
CBC trimmed the deficit to 3-1 scoring on a penalty in the 79th minute when Senior Sabelo Hlongwane beat a Bruins defender and was taken down inside the box. Hlongwane scored the penalty kick for his team-leading sixth goal on the season.
Bellevue won the women’s game, 3-0. CBC fell to 3-7, 0-1 to Bellevue, which outshot the Mustangs, 22-3, and is 4-5-3.
The men host Southwest Baptist at 3 p.m. Tuesday. The CBC women host St. Mary’s at noon Saturday at Centennial Park.
The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears defeated Stephen F. Austin in straight sets in volleyball Saturday.
The Sugar Bears (14-3, 6-0 SLC) hit .449 for the match, hitting at least .371 in each set. They were led by Heather Schnars and Paige Gantar, who each hit .714, tying for the eighth-highest single-game percentage in school history. Schnars added 16 kills, seven digs, three blocks and two aces. Gantar chipped in 10 kills and two blocks. Marissa Collins dished out 40 assists to lead the match, and Shelbee Berringer had 13 digs, helping the Sugar Bears hold the Ladyjacks (10-8, 2-3 SLC) to a hitting percentage of just .079.
Alma defeated Greebrier 25-19, 25-23, 15-25, 25-13 in volleyball Thursday.
Kenzie Batterton had 12 kills and six blocks for the Lady Panthers. Marissa Hollenbaugh added nine kills. Assist leaders were Payton Starkey and Kobie Hartman. Block leaders were Harlie Langston and Cameron Roberts.
Greenbrier won the JV game, 25-23, 25-23. Savannah Baker had four kills and blocks. Langston added eight kills and four blocks. Other top players were Maranda Clendinin, Hartman and Katie Jones.
