Mrs. A.C. Sledge reaches high but doesn’t even touch the halfway mark of a banana tree growing at her home. The tree, about 13 feet tall, was grown from a plant Mrs. Sledge got in Canton, Texas. It’s about six months old, but hasn’t borne fruit. Mrs. Sledge said cold weather may damage it before bananas appear, “But I’m going to try to keep it covered until it bears.” She has three other smaller trees started from cuttings off the larger one.
