New Beginning Church
Sorry, it’s been several weeks since I’ve had an article in the paper. We have had many things going on, so it has kept us busy.
Pastor Bob had two wonderful messages this past Sunday from Joshua 6 and Hebrews 10. Hebrews 10:22-25 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering for he is faithful. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
With so much going on in this world and the world holding on to the people and the falling away from the Lord in fact they are staying out of church’s because the world has a hold of them, that day is approaching and it’s coming fast.
We had a wonderful prayer service Sunday night, praying for all who were sick and standing on the word that we would be healed. We are praying for Royce and Edith Johnson, the family of Charles Green, Darrell and Sharon Watts, Pat and Jim Strough, Patty Johnson, James Lindsey, Ted Jones, JR Reagan, Techler Clark, Nancy McNew and many others who need a touch or need healing. I know it can happen, because I have been healed before.
We also want to wish Edith Johnson, Dennis Veazey, JR Reagan and Diane Robinson a happy and blessed birthday for the month of October.
“Dear God, help me always to be grateful for the gift of being alive and use it to bring joy and love to you, wherever I go.”
First United Methodist Church
The youth choirs of Conway First United Methodist Church will host a Blessing of the Animals service at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6.
This short service will be held in the church parking lot and will be rather informal. The children will share a few songs and lead some short scripture readings.
Of course, your family pets are welcome to attend — assuming they are on a leash, in a cage or carrier, and well-managed. Each pet will be blessed as a special creation of God. Even if you don’t have a pet, you are welcome to attend and enjoy.
The notion of blessing animals is firmly grounded in scripture. Genesis opens with God creating animals and blessing them. Blessing animals reminds us to be faithful stewards of the earth and all its inhabitants.
A Blessing of the Animals service is traditionally done on or near Oct. 4, which is the commemoration of St. Francis of Assisi. St. Francis discovered the closer he drew to God, the more he appreciated all of God’s creation — including the animals.
This will be a great occasion to encourage our children and youth in leading worship for the congregation and the community at large.
Everyone is invited.
The church is at 1610 Prince St. (corner of Clifton and Prince) in Conway. For more information, call the church office at 501-329-3801 or visit the church website at www.conwayfumc.org.
Bethlehem Baptist Church
God continues to pour out his blessings on Bethlehem Church. This past Sunday was “Youth Sunday” with the youth leading in all phases of the services. What a blessing is to see young people who are willing to use their talents for God.
Wednesday evening we began a study of Exodus, having just finished Genesis. If you are not attending Wednesday Night Bible Study, you are certainly missing a blessing.
Tomorrow the College Group is sponsoring a Spaghetti Lunch following the morning services. Donations will be accepted that will be used to further Charlie Wagner’s mission work in China. The WMA will also be having a Bake Goods Auction to support the work of the WMA. Please plan to stay and support the work of these two groups.
Bethlehem will be hosting “Walk 4 the World” on Sunday night, Oct. 13. Walkers may come to the church and begin walking between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. The church will have a church-wide potluck dinner (sandwiches, chips, dips, etc) in the FLC at 6:30. There will be a brief program during/following dinner by BMA missionary to the Philippines, Wade Allen. This will be Bethlehem’s contribution to the national walk/fundraiser for Lifeword Broadcast Ministries.
