Mrs. Jessie Boardman entertained Saturday evening at her home on Mitchell Street at a buffet dinner for members of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority in honor of her daughter, Miss Clara Mae Boardman, who teaches in Turrell and who was at home for the weekend. Ten members of the sorority enjoyed the delightful evening.

The Wesleyan Service Guild of the Wesley Memorial Methodist Church met yesterday at the home of Mrs. Ernest Pendley. Mrs. Taylor Nolan presented the devotional. Mrs. George Robinette, program chairman, directed the program. Mrs. L.P. Speed, president, presided at the business session. Refreshments were served to 10 members and Mrs. Winnie Wilson, a guest.

State Sen. Stanley Russ and Faulkner County Democratic Central Committee Chairman Jake Sims shared a laugh last night at a “roast” held in Sims’ honor at Hidden Valley Catfish House. The event, sponsored by the Faulkner County Democratic Women’s Club, was attended by party members and dignitaries, including former Gov. Orval Faubus, state Democratic Party Chairman Lib Carlisle, state Democratic Party Executive Director Kip Blakley, and many other local and state officials.

Brian Hairston of Conway killed an unusual 6x7 elk near the Buffalo River. He was one of three successful hunters in the 2003 Arkansas public land elk hunt. His father, Joe Hairston, of Warren, was his helper on the hunt.
