Hendrix College freshman quarterback Seth Peters and freshman linebacker Broc Smith were named the Southern Athletic Association Football Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Monday.
Peters, from Greenbrier, was responsible for 352 yards of total offense in the Warriors’ 48-29 win over Southwestern on Saturday. The Greenbrier native went 22-for-32 passing, with 244 yards and three touchdowns and rushed 11 times for 108 yards, including a 29-yard touchdown run.
Smith, from Tulsa, led Hendrix with 12 tackles and three pass breakups on Saturday. He also had 1.5 tackles for a loss, including half a sack, and blocked a punt in the endzone which led to a Warrior touchdown on the next play.
Hendrix will travel to Jackson, Miss. for a conference tilt with Millsaps College on Saturday.
UCA goes up, down in polls
After an open week, the University of Central Arkansas gained two spots in one FCS poll and one spot in another.
In the coaches poll, the Bears went from No. 13 to No. 11. In the media poll, UCA dropped from 13th to 14th.
North Dakota State is No. 1 in both polls. Towson is No. 2 in the coaches poll and Sam Houston State is No. 2 in the media poll.
McNeese State, UCA’s opponent Saturday, is 11th in the media poll and 14th in the coaches poll.
Fayetteville tops in AP poll
Fayetteville took over the top spot in The Associated Press high school poll this week.
The Bulldogs are No. 1, followed by Bentonville and Cabot, which defeated No. 1 North Little Rock.
North Little Rock fell to fifth behind Greenwood
Conway is ninth.
