Russell Brothers Circus showed to near capacity crowds yesterday afternoon and last night at the Collier grounds east of the Conway city limits. The circus today moved on to Pine Bluff.
The show’s outstanding performer probably was Cuban Don LaVola, slack wire entertainer. Other acts, however brought much applause.

Miss Sarah Mae Fortson’s sixth grade class at Ellen Smith Elementary School organized a garden cub Sept. 20. Officers elected were Karen Brazear, president; James Coker, vice president; Jannette Busber, secretary; and Diane Sawrie, historian. The group chose the rose as it’s club flower and red and white as color. Misses Anna Wilson and Mary Hileman explained the purpose of a junior garden club and discussed the methods of flower arrangements.

Mary Rorie won the Women’s Golf Association’s “even holes” competition Tuesday at Cadron Valley Country Club.
Rorie fired a 35.5.

Some 100 soldiers from Conway are included in the Arkansas Army National Guard mobilization announced Saturday.
Conway’s Company B of the 39th Infantry Brigade is among the 3,000 soldiers in 47 Arkansas units ordered to federal active duty to serve in Irag.
Conway is also home to Conway B of the 489th Engineer Battalion of the Army Reserves, called to active duty in February and sent to Iraq in April.
