The St. Joseph Lady Bulldogs, which started conference play 8-1, received a wakeup call Thursday night from Atkins.
The Lady Red Devils took a 25-20, 19-25, 25-20, 25-15 victory over the Lady Bulldogs 12-5, 8-20 at the St. Joseph Family Activity Center.
“Atkins is better than us right now,” said St. Joseph coach Luke Davis. “We have to get better in everything we do.”
Rachel Briggler was perfect on 14 serves and had three aces for the Lady Bulldogs. Linzy Hoelzeman was 17 of 20 on serves with three aces.
Meagan Briggler had 15 digs and Sydney Spradlin, 13.
St. Joseph won the JV match, 25-20, 23-25, 15-7.
HAMMOND, La. — The University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears picked up their fourth straight, straight-set victory Thursday night, defeating Southeastern Louisiana, 25-20, 25-22, 25-10.
The Sugar Bears upped their record to 11-3 and 3-0 in the Southland Conference. Southeastern fell to 6-9, 0-3.
Heather Schnars led the Central Arkansas offense with 10 kills. Marissa Collins picked up a double-double in the match, dishing out 30 assists and digging 11 balls, while Shelbee Berringer had a match-high 15 digs.
Central Arkansas returns to action on Saturday afternoon to play at new SLC member University of New Orleans.
