Former Conway golfer Summar Roachell helped the Conway women’s golf team to a victory last weekend in a the rain-shortened Mercedes Benz Collegiate at Knoxville, Tenn.
The Razorbacks combined for a 563 to best South Carolina for the title by eight strokes.
Roachell, a freshman, had rounds of 72 and 74 and tied for 19th individually. She had seven birdies, two on her final nine holes.
UCA stays 13th in media poll
After a victory over UT-Martin, the University of Central Arkansas stayed 13th in The Sports Network media poll of FCS teams.
North Dakota State (with 157 first-place votes) remained No. 1 and Eastern Washington (one first-place vote) No. 2. Sam Houston State is No. 3 and McNeese State, the Bears’ next opponent, is ninth.
UCA’s Nagy named Player of the Week
The University of Central Arkansas’ Jessica Nagy has been named the Offensive Volleyball Player of the Week by the Southland Conference.
Nagy turned in the match-high in kills twice and averaged 3.89 kills per set.
Faulkner homeschool team wins tournament
The Faulkner County Lady Falcons placed first in a recent volleyball tournament at Gospel Light Academy in Hot Springs. The homeschool team was undefeated in tournament play. Anna Lawrence and Lauren Pharr were named all-tournament.
Landry May was named Most Valuable Player. Victoria Gerbholz, Anna Besley, Madison Thornton, Lindsey Morrison, and Destiny Holder rounded out the roster for the Lady Falcons.
The Lady Falcons will host a fundraiser Tuesday at Larry’s Pizza in Conway to raise funds for a national tournament in October.
Hendrix tennis team places at Tyler
TYLER, Texas — The Hendrix College women’s tennis players had success last weekend in the ITA Southwest Regional.
Sophomore Kaci Dickey advanced to the consolation quarterfinals after defeating Caitlin Alverson of East Texas Baptist 6-4, 7-5, but fell to Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Paolo Nunez 6-2, 6-3.
Two Warrior freshmen fought for spots in their draw’s quarterfinals. Pratheepa Ravikumar defeated Abby Garcia of Schreiner, 6-2, 6-2 ,before falling to UMHB’s Lizzie Ostroff, 6-4, 4-6, 10-3. Anusha Majagi also won her first match against Mattie Cryer of Southwestern, 6-4, 6-3, then lost to Brittany Garza of Schreiner 6-2, 6-2.
Senior Caroline Kelley won her first match against ETBU’s Kayla Franklin, 6-2, 3-6, 11-9. Freshman Julia Lefler also pikced up a win over Caitlin Zarr of Texas Lutheran 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).
Hendrix’ final match of the fall will be on Oct. 5 at John Brown University in Siloam Springs.
Warriors’ Pochron gets field hockey honor
Hendrix College freshman goalkeeper Gabryele Pochron was named the Southern Athletic Association Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Pochron recorded 24 saves in the Warriors’ 9-1 loss to Rhodes on Saturday. It was the second most saves in school history for the Reading, Pa. native. Pochron leads the NCAA with 23.2 saves per game.
