Mr. and Mrs. George G. Shaw entertained the Night Bridge club Saturday evening at the Conway Country Club with a picnic supper. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Allison, members from Little Rock, were present. After supper cards were played and conversation enjoyed.

50 years ago

(1963)

A plea from Truman and Jannell Starkey: Please don’t call us, we have no Arkansas-Texas football game tickets.

The Log Cabin Democrat carried a story Tuesday telling about Starkey receiving by mistake too many tickets to the game. He and three others had ordered tickets for all the Little Rock games. Starkey ordered 16, got 48.

The Starkeys sent 26 of the tickets back. They will use the other 22.

Descendants and friends of the late Isaac and Carilla Vann Edwards attended an annual reunion Sunday (Sept. 11, 1988) at Toad Suck Park.

Those attending from Faulkner County were: Conway - Connie Linn, Lyda Payne, Vivian Mode, Ruby Kirby, Welthia Flynn, Joe Bailey, Robert and Judith O. Vinn and their children, Rob and Lindsey, Mary Canoy and Tim and Bridget Starkey and their children, T.E., Sarah and Charity; and Greenbrier - George and Opal Lieblong.

Mel Hutchins has been elected president of the Conway Evening Lions Club for 2003-2004. The club focuses its efforts on serving those in need of eye care in Faulkner County.

During his 1 1/2 years as a member of the Conway Evening Lions Club, Hutchins has also served as vice president.

As president, he hopes to recruit new members as create a website for the club.
