Jim Wilson, a 140-pounded with a mighty right toe, kicked a 22-yard field goal with 0:03 on the clock Friday night to give the Conway Wampus Cats a 10-7 victory over the Forrest city Mustangs in a fierce fight at the Hendrix College Stadium that left a big opening night crowd limp.

The field goal, kicked from the 12-yard line, climaxed a stout-hearted Conway comeback after Forrest City had tied the game, 7-7, with about three minutes left.

Cpl. Jerry Roberts of Russellville, formerly of Greenbrier, has been named Trooper of the Year by the Arkansas State Police.

He was honored today at a ceremony in the governor’s conference room at the Capitol in Little Rock. He will receive a plaque and a pin to wear on his uniform.

Roberts was born and raised at Greenbrier. He graduated from Greenbrier High School and has attended the University of Central Arkansas, Arkansas State University and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

The University of Central Arkansas women’s golf team shot a second-round 328 on Monday to win the Patsy Rendleman Invitational hosted by Catawba College at Crescent Golf Club. The Bears led after the first day after shooting a 312, led by Conway’s Whitney Ross with a 75. Ross shot 75-85 — 160 to finish tied with 12th.

UCA finished with a 640 total, followed by Catawba with 645.
