Summer is almost over. We had a pretty bad storm on Friday afternoon. I moved my car because I knew that pine tree limb was fixing to drop , and sure enough about 5 minutes after I moved the car, down it went. Annette and Bobby Wilson — part of their fence was blown down in their back yard. Lots and lots of branches and limbs down every where. I heard it got a few barn tops too. I feel like that was more than just winds especially after hearing a roaring sound too. But what do I know!
Sounds like Patsie Rorie had a great vacation. She left on July 28 to go to Savannah, Ga., to her daughter, Jennie’s home. They went to Georgia to visit and for the birth of her 12th great-grandchild, which this made her present at 10 of the 12 births. What a blessing for her! Josh and his family were the proud parents of Michael Alexandar, and his little brother was so proud of his little brother. She also got to go to North Carolina and visit with Clint and his family too. Then back to Jennie’s home on the 24th. They visited some of the highlights of Georgia they saw alligators, visited Tybee Island and she had a great time. She came home and last Friday had knee surgery. We wish her a speedy recovery and a great big thank you for sharing your vacation with us. Get well so you can continue more visits.
Please keep the following in your prayers, Patsie Rorie, Wilma Stevenson, Tarkington family, Glover families, Betty Griffith, Larry Griffith, Frankie D. Battles, King Family and any one else that has been sick or lost a loved one.
Sandy and I had a great weekend this past weekend. I love when she comes home. Landon is still enjoying kindergarten. Love me some Landon Dowdy too. Missed him this weekend for sure.

Tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 our Faulkner County Club singing starts up again for the fall and winter season. Oakland United Methodist at Holland is honored to host it, the second Sunday on Sept. 8. Then next month, second Sunday on Oct. 13 the club will meet at Centerville United Methodist during the evening service. The second Sunday on Nov. 10, we will meet at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church. We have each second Sunday afternoon filled through next April. So we would love it if some of you would like to join us. We sing from the convention books, Heavenly Highways or others the director’s choice, and we love to have an audience. I believe the songs (words) and music will bless you.
We had a good service at Oakland last Sunday, our pastor has been preaching from Romans. We always enjoy and welcome our visitors and ones who come back home for the days. Lyndal and Rosalind Harrington from Kansas City and Curtis and Jan Smith of Little Rock blessed us by their presence. Rosalind always plays the piano for us. Lyndal and Rosalind were celebrating 52 years of marriage. Curtis and Jan came to be with them. The girls were raised here in Holland and have been best friends since childhood. They got married in our church.
Visitors of Marian McGinty and Sunny Earnhart recently were Terry Cardin of Greers Ferry, D’Anna Beene of Enola, and Ginger Beene of Enola.
Marian and Sunny attended the 90th birthday party of Mickey McGinty last Sunday afternoon at South Ridge Assisted Living in Conway. Mickey is Marian’s sister-in-law. They also celebrated Labor Day with their brother, Charles Earnhart and family at Mayflower, and enjoyed a great lunch and time together.
Ray and I attended a get-together Labor Day, at Vilonia at the home of Ed and Linda Sellers. A large crowd of family and friends enjoyed the food and fellowship. My cousin, Von Lee and I try to be together at this time, both our daughters married into the Sellers family. Von’s dad and my mother were brother and sister, so we have a lot to talk about.
Please remember to pray for our sick and shut-ins — Betty Applegate, Eldene Duran, and Bobi Hendrickson. Brenda Firestone had surgery last week on her hand, arm and shoulder. The surgery was expected to take 2 hours but ended up taking 5 1/2 hours. Please pray, God is our main source. The doctors do their job with God’s help and thank God for good Christian doctors.
Have a good week. Fall is coming soon, and come to the singing tomorrow afternoon.
Tomorrow, Sept. 8, the Faulkner County Singing Club will meet at Oakland United Methodist Church in the Holland community. Singing will begin after lunch and continue until approximately 3 p.m.
Because the Club is in recess during summer months, this September meeting opens the 2013-2014 series. Each second Sunday from September through May, the group gets together, usually at county churches, and sings from current shape-note songbooks. The public is always invited.
After the opening session, the Club will meet at Centerville UMC on Oct. 13. A complete schedule for 2013-2014 will be announced before long.
Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarene will host their 9th annual Hog Roast on Sept. 14. The meal will be served from 4-8 p.m. and all proceeds will benefit the building fund. Roast pork, baked beans, fries and cole slaw will be served along with beverages and homemade desserts by some of the best cooks in town. While there is not a charge for the meal, donations will go to the building fund. Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarene is located 10.5 miles east of Greenbrier on Highway 225 E. Pastor Roger Evatt invites you to the church for both the Hog Roast and Sunday service.
