Adam Dycus (5-10, 150, Jr.)
How do you feel about the offense this season?
Dycus: “Our offense can be much better just because we have the experience. The guys around me are a lot better. The receivers are better and our offensive linemen are getting better every day. I think we can do a lot more in the running game.”
How much better are you this season?
Dycus: “I think I’m a lot better because of my experience and the guys around me get better everyday. The offensive linemen are getting better. That’s what’s gonna make me a better quarterback.”
What about this season?
Dycus: “Our hopes are always high. Having 18 seniors, we know we have the opportunity to do some good things. I feel like we have the capability to bring a state championship here.
“But we know we have to take it a game at a time. We’re very confident.”
What did you learn from last year?
Dycus: “To take one game at a time. Last year, when we were playing Bald Knob and I looked ahead to Harding. Toward the end last year, I started watching a lot more film. I learned to watch more film and to prepare better. One of my goals is to prepare for every team.”
Jordan Graves (6-0, 210, Sr.)
How improved is the defense this year?
Graves: “We’re more aggressive. It’s a huge step up from last year. Last year, it seemed like no one really wanted to tackle. This year, it seems like everybody is flying to the ball wanting to make a hit, get a player down before he gets to the line. It’s a whole new attitude.”
How about all the shootouts you were involved in last year?
Graves: “It was pretty much a battle of the offenses all season. Bald Knob (a 57-53 win) was offense vs. offense the whole game. This year, we have a lot of guys out there who are ready to make a hit, make a play. That’s our job, putting our part in, getting our job done and really getting after it.”
What about your offense?
Graves: “I’d put our offense up against any team in the state. We have athletes, guys who are determined and are not going to quit and will give 110 percent every single play and every single down.
“We have players who are willing to learn and be coached. We have a lot to look forward to this year.”
