What beautiful weather God is giving us, but we sure do need a rain. Don’t complain.
Service was good at Oakland Methodist Church last Sunday. We had good attendance and were blessed to have Curtis and Jan Smith from Little Rock to worship with us. Our pastor, the Rev. Tammy Garrison, was the Smith’s pastor at St. Peter’s Church in Little Rock before coming to Oakland.
Curtis and Jan visited Betty Applegate Sunday before returning home. Jan is Ray and Betty’s first cousin and was raised here in Holland.
We have a new addition to our family, Samuel Ephraim Sellers, son of Bart and Amanda Sellers, was born Aug. 19, at Conway Regional Medical Center, weighing in at 8 pounds, 8 ounces. This makes John and Sherry 10 grandchildren and Ray and me 14 great-grandchildren. The more the merrier.
Our Faulkner County Singing Club will begin again at 1:30 p.m. on the second Sunday on Sept. 8 at our church, Oakland Methodist.
We dismiss our second Sunday singings from May until September so the different churches can observe their annual Homecomings and the convention. Although our club is very active in these events. The public is always invited.
Bobi Hendrickson isn’t doing well. Remember to pray for our sick people and ones who have had accidents recently. Marion McGinty has fractures in her back to be cemented back soon. Sandra Cardin fell and has a sprained shoulder, black eye, bruises and pain.
Brenda Firestone fell and is facing surgery for shoulder fractures and pain.
My cousin, Joan (Earnhart) Dupuis in Montana fell and fractured her shoulder. She is facing surgery. All of these are in extreme pain. They are facing a lot of therapy. They need our prayers.
Have a good, safe week.
Adoption into God’s family provides us with courage and strength for living.
Wow! Seems like every week someone in this community has passed away. Junior Glover passed away last week after a longing illness. Junior was part owner of the Glover Store that was in business for years and is still the only store building standing. He was a school board member and a part of this community for years and years. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
Please keep this family in your prayers. His legacy will live on through his wonderful grandkids and great grandkids.
Last Saturday, Landon and I went to the Memorial of Robert King at Toad Suck Park. Landon played with all the nieces and nephews and grandkids of the King’s. It was a great memorial service for a wonderful man. Robert was liked by everyone. Just sitting there listening to the memories of things that Robert had done in his life made me stop and think how precious life is and how much we all take for granted. There wasn’t a time I didn’t see Robert out and about that he would always smile and speak to you. He had the most gorgeous eyes too. And I noticed his daughter and grandkids have those same beautiful eyes. Keep this family in your prayers. As always, I enjoyed visiting with Marie and Gary Fielder and Dee Joyner too. I hate that it was under these circumstances.
This is Labor Day weekend, please be safe out there on the highways and on the waters and during your travels.
Happy belated birthday to Ms. Marcelle Fielder! She amazes me, she is like the battery that keeps going and going! But I guess that is what keeps her so young. Many more birthday wishes to you!
Please keep the following in your prayers: Betty Griffith and family, Tarkington family, and Glover families.
Send news to email@example.com or call me. Can’t put news in if I don’t hear from you.
I had a wonderful trip this past weekend! Susan, Heather (Grooms) Cole and I went to Oklahoma City to visit with Chelsey and spend the weekend shopping for her wedding dress. You have heard the term “shop till you drop,” well, that is what we did all day Saturday and Sunday afternoon. It was so much fun and a special blessing to be with my girls for this time of fun. Friday evening we went out to eat Mexican food at a restaurant on Lake Heffner — a very beautiful setting. Chris joined us for this event and Saturday he split for the weekend. Saturday we had sushi for lunch and had dinner at TGIFridays. We had late lunch Sunday at Red Robin before leaving to return home.
Laura Kimbrough, of Bryant, spent the weekend of Aug. 10 with Gale Garrison and attended the ladies salad luncheon at Bethlehem Saturday and church Sunday. Jimmie Merritt, of Greenbrier, and Carl Garrison had supper with Gale and Laura on Saturday night.
Gale Garrison and Jimie Merritt visited Renewal Ranch in Perry County recently with a group of Central Baptist Church’s Golden Agers. They had lunch there and toured the facilities.
Jerry Nash and Jimmie Merritt recently visited Charlsie Nash Brown at Parkway Village in Little Rock.
Bill and I celebrated 55 years of marriage last weekend. My how time flies! We have been blessed with two wonderful children, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Prayers are needed for Charlotte Davis’ mother, Emma Brown, who is very ill. She is 96 years old and has never been ill in her life, has never had to take any meds of any kind. She had sudden gastric bleeding almost two weeks ago and has been hospitalized since. Please send up prayers for her, Charlotte and her three sisters, and family.
