Ahoy, ye landlubbers, hearken to a tale of a young Conway lass who spent an unforgettable summer aboard a tall ship as a deckhand.
For Melanie Partin, 18, the experience was something out of a fairyland story, as she swabbed the deck of the handsome ship Bounty, climbing its lofty masts and soaring 100 or more feet in the air and taking turns at the helm. She latched onto a place on the Bounty via an invitation she saw on the Internet. She applied for a summer internship spot and was accepted, to her great joy.
Partin is a recent honor graduate of Conway High School. She will be studying at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. She is a daughter of Sam P. and Esther Partin of Conway.
