Fred Gordy, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gordy of Conway, has been nominated by United States Senator John E. Miller as principal for appointment to the United States military academy at West Point, for entrance in July 1939, according to a letter the Log Cabin Democrat received today from Senator Miller.
Young Gordy, a graduate of Conway High School, last year was a student in Virginia Military Institute at Lexingto, Va., and will probably return there for another year’s work in preparation for entrance at West Point, members of his family said today.
He is the second Conway young man to receive a West Point cadetship in the past two years, Bobby Wheat, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ila Wheat, being the other.

Mrs. Paul Jones is the new president of the Faulkner County Council of Home Demonstration Clubs. She was named yesterday at a quarterly meeting of the group at Vilonia.
Other officers named include: Mrs. Victor Halter of the South Conway club, vice president; Mrs. Thurman E. Rowlett of the West Conway club, secretary-treasurer; Mrs. E.E. Ott of the River Road club, reporter; and Mrs. Vivian Sanders was elected recreation chairman. Mrs. Lon F. Stanley of Conway is the outgoing president.

Don and Annie Atkisson of Conway will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at a reception at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Fifth Avenue Park in Conway.
The Atkissons were married Aug. 17, 1938, in Conway by the Rev. W.M. Harper. They have three children. Betty Anderson of Cutler, Ind., Carolyn Moore of Kokomo, Ind., and Donald C. Atkisson of Conway, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Greg Pillow, president of the Conway Kiwanis Club, presented Kiwanis awards to members Bob Meriweather and Heather Harmon at a recent club meeting. Harmon was named Kiwanian of the Year, while Meriweather’s award placed him on the Kiwanis International Tablet of Honor for his contributions to the civic organization.
