Faulkner County Singing Convention
The 135th annual Faulkner County Singing Convention will be held Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27, at Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarene.
Singing will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, resume at 10 a.m. Saturday, break for lunch, and take up again at 1. The church is located at 193 Johnson Loop on Highway 225, 10 miles east of Greenbrier.
The Convention, which started in 1879, has been an integral part of music activities, religious observances, social dealings, and even political aspirations in Faulkner County over the years. It used to run Friday evening, all day Saturday, Saturday evening, and all day Sunday. That format, combined with delegates representing several county singing classes and strict attention to its Constitution and By-Laws, generated useful inter-community support and cooperation.
Officers for the 2013 Convention are: Robert Clark, president; Jonathan Sawrie, vice president; H. R. Neal, chaplain; Raymond Bush, Sgt. at Arms; Margie Fulmer, secretary; and Martha Wilcox, treasurer. More information about the Convention may be obtained from any of these officers or by calling 501-329-5040, 501-679-2687 or 501-849-2837.
To be a part of such an enduring convention is indeed special. County participants are encouraged to report recent deaths in their communities so that the memorial committee can remember them. Singers, pianists, and all who have an interest in Gospel music are invited to attend.
