75 years ago


J.S.L. Wright and his attendant, G.D. Stephenson, R.T. Hankins of Wooster, and his attendant, Confederate veterans, and G.W. Dalton, a Union veteran of Faulkner County and his attendant arrived home yesterday afternoon from Gettysburg, Pa., where they attended the reunion of the blue and gray on the site of the battle, fought 75 years ago.

Mr. Wright had a pleasant surprise in a visit from Reyburn Pyle, a former Conway man, now living near Gettysburg, who saw Mr. Wright’s picture in a newspaper and went to see him.

50 years ago


Construction of the new school at Vilonia is on schedule. The completion date has been tentatively set for Aug. 15. Charles Lovell of Searcy is the contractor. The building contain 10 classrooms for elementary grades, auditorium, health room, teachers’ conference room, office, central library and storage. The Lovell firm’s bid for the project was $96,386.

Ashley Brooke Sowell, 2, daughter of Keith and Janie Sowell of Conway, was photogenic winner and second alternate in the beauty division of the Tiny Tot category of the Miss Sweetheart USA state final pageant held recently at Beebe.

Miss Sowell received a crown, a gold medallion and a trophy. Her winning photo was taken by Gary Alan Strain of Conway.

Miss Sowell is a granddaughter of Adron and Pearl Sowell and Billie Ford and the late Eldon Ford, all of Conway, and a great-granddaughter of Jim and Lora Ford of Conway.

The Greenbrier Pirates recently took first place at district tournament and in their league. Their current season record is 18-2. They also took first place in the Morrilton Invitational Tournament. Team members are Cody Creameans, Mikey Carmichael, Kolby Mavity, Steven Posey, Dustin Carmichael, Austin Morgan, Cyle Denison, Brandon Baker, Michael Hall, Jacob Huffmire and Riley Hall. Coaches are Curt Denison and Jeff Baker.


City considers rezonings, more

The Conway City Council will consider rezoning properties, reclassifying a city position and rebidding a project during its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Russell L. “Jack” Roberts District Court Building.
