Conway runners place high in Firecracker Fast 5K

LITTLE ROCK — Two runners were among the leaders at the Firecracker Fast 5K here Thursday.

Erika Setzler, 21, who runs track and cross country for the University of Central Arkansas, won the women’s division in 17”07.50, a personal record on the course.

Lance Beckman, 19, who runs for Arkansas State, was overtaken by Tim Richard of North Little Rock in the last mile and finished second in 15:56.83. Richard won in 15:37.12. Richard, 25, is the defending Toad Suck 10K champ.

Other finishers from Faulkner County in the top 20:

Men: Toler Freyaldenhoven, 15, the Toad Suck 5K champ, 8th, 16:55.74; Jonah Tanui, 41, Greenbrier, 11th, 17:02.68.

Women: Amanda Potts, 34, Conway, 14th, 20:20,31; Jennifer Odom, 27, Vilonia, 16th, 20:30.62; Lauren Campbell, 14, Conway, 18th, 20:51.01.

Mark Moyer, a redshirt freshman from Russellville who missed the 2016 season with an arm injury, went the distance, allowing just five hits and striking out four to record UCA’s first complete game of the season to lead the University of Central Arkansas to a run-rule, 10-0 victory New Orleans University in the runner game of the three-game series Sunday at Bear Stadium.
