More than 1,000 students will receive degrees from the University of Texas at commencement exercises June 6. Among the 1,161 tentative candidates for degrees is George Langford Connell of Conway.

Modern panels of new library at Arkansas State Teachers College contrasted sharply with the classic design of the E.E. Cordley Science Building. The $1,200,000 facility is part of a $1,800,000 building program on the campus. The library, to house some 200,000 volumes, is fashioned after the one at Oklahoma State University, Dr. Silas D. Snow, president, said. The project is expected to be finished in July. Nabholz Construction Co. of Conway is the contractor. Other projects include a $250,000 addition to the cafeteria and a $350,000 addition to the Student Center. The latter two projects will be completed in September, Dr. Snow said.

Brooks Glover of Greenbrier was named to the Dean’s List at Arkansas College of Technology in Little Rock.

A son of Dot Glover and the late J.S. “Whitie” Glover of Greenbrier, Glover has maintained a 4.00 grade point average for three consecutive semesters. He is a 1987 graduate of Greenbrier High School.

The Conway Morning Optimist Club presented four scholarships to students based on their applications and accomplishments.

They include: Sean White, son of Bill and Judy White of Conway; Chris Baker, son of George and Susan Baker of Conway; Ashley French, daughter of Donnie and Cindy French of Mayflower; and Jessica Traylor, daughter of Marcy Shockey and James Traylor of Conway.
