Conway Christian's Carter receives 2A athletic director honor

Michael Carter, Conway Christian athletic director, has been named Class 2A High School Athletic Director of the Year by the Arkansas High School Athletic Administrators Association.

It is the second honor by the AHSAA to a Faulkner County athletic director. Stephen Wood, Greenbrier athletic director, was earlier named both 5A Athletic Director of the Year and Athletic Director of the Year for the state (all classifications).

Carter, in his second year as football coach and athletic director at CCS, helped lead the Eagles to Arkansas Activities Association playoff appearances in almost every sport.

Chris Kordsmeier, St. Joseph athletic director, received the 2A honor last year.

The award recipients will be recognized during high school all-star week in Conway in June.

Trojans slip past UCA in OT

LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock’s Jaclyn Purvine scored a golden goal in the 95th minute, dribbling through the UCA midfield and sliding the ball into the top-right corner, just past the outstretched fingers of a diving Lauren Mercuri to give the Trojans a 2-1 overtime victory Friday night in the soccer opener for the University of Central Arkansas women.
