Mrs. Louis Dayer was hostess to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for its meeting Tuesday afternoon at her home on Faulkner Street. A report of hospital work was given and plans for the annual poppy sale in May were made. It was pledged tat the auxiliary would cooperate with the veterans to keep America out of war. Mrs. Carl Brunon read a paper by United States Senator Homer Bone on “Keeping America Safe for Americans.”

Robert L. Jones, son of Mrs. Lois Jones has won a second promotion in the Air Force within a year.
He recently was made a chief master sergeant at Roswell Air Force Base, N.M., where he has been stationed for several months. Last year, while at Little Rock Air Force Base, he became a senior master sergeant.
Jones joined the Air Force in 1943. Following World War II he attended Hendrix College for four years and was graduated with honors. He returned to the service following graduation.
His father was the late Albert Jones, a Conway police chief.

Julia Fraser of Conway has been awarded the Marketing Education Teacher of the Year Award for 1988 by the Sales and Marketing Executives of Arkansas.
Mrs. Fraser, who has been a teacher 18 years at Sylvan Hills High School, said the award is given based on teaching experience and accomplishments.
Mrs. Fraser and her husband, Bob, have three daughters.

The Lady Thunderbirds defeated potent challenger Sulphur Rock by 59-55 late Friday night at the Pine Bluff Convention Center to take the state Class A championship for the third straight year.
