St. Joseph rallies past Magnet Cove

Drew Bates, who was 2 for 4, delivered a walkoff single Thursday in leading St. Joseph (4-2, 1-0) to a 6-5 victory over Magnet Cove in the Bulldogs’ baseball conference opener.

St. Joseph rallied from behind late to tie the game at five, then scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

“I’m proud of the guys for battling,” said coach Luke Davis. “We had some guys out of position today and they did what they needed to do to get the win. It was ugly, but it was a win.”

Britt Stroth allowed two hits and struck out five over the last 3 2/3 innings to get the win.

Taylor Schrekenhofer was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Stroth was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.

Mayflower gets 10th baseball win

MAYFLOWER — The Mayflower Eagles (10-1) headed into spring break with a 6-2 victory over the Maumelle Hornets.

The Eagles scored in the first on hits by Michael Post, Ty Fowler and an RBI single from Tyler Herrin. Mayflower added three more in the third as Fowler, Derek Vickers and Trey Bradley had consecutive hits and Justin Sewell delivered a two-run single.

The Eagles were led at the plate by Post, who went 2 for 3, and Fowler, who was 2 for 4. Also providing offense were Vickers, Bradley, Herrin, Sewell and Drew Duncan.

Christian Moore (2-0) allowed two runs in four innings for the win. Jordan Burns allowed one hit in three innings for the save.

Mayflower won the JV game, 3-0. Sewell was the winning pitcher. Tyler Godwin, Chris Reynolds, Justin Case and Ryan Koonce were the leading hitters.
