St. Joseph opened its soccer season Monday with a 0-0 tie against Morrilton.
The Bulldogs kept the Devil Dogs to one shot on goal in the first half while putting six on frame themselves. Morrilton’s keeper, Jymond English, turned back 16 attempts on goal, including a penalty kick awarded late in the second half to the Bulldogs’ Drew Hambuchen. Senior goalkeeper Jared Thielke recorded his first shutout of the season with just four saves in the second half, most on a final push by Morrilton. St. Joseph’s rotating back line of Alex Halter and Nathan Davidson, Spenser Freyaldenhoven and Wayne Roland, Austin Welter, and Nathan Hambuchen limited the offensive attack of the Devil Dogs.
