Baseball roundup: St. Joseph, Bauxite win in Bauxite tourney

BAUXITE — St. Joseph used an eight-run fifth inning Thursday to surge past Bauxite, 10-4, in the Bulldogs’ baseball opener in the FCA tournament here.

Andrew Beck was 2 for 3. Jacob Lampe, Cole Schichtl, Taylor Schrekenhofer and Andrew Kordsmeier each had a hit. Lampe, who pitched two innings to get the win on the mound, had two RBI. Schichtl and Schrekenhofer had one.

Mayflower wins in first round

BAUXITE — Mayflower, 6-0, routed Abundant Life. The Mayflower Eagles (6-0) defeated the Abundant Life Owls 13-0 in the first round of the Bauxite FCA Tournament. 

The Eagles sent 15 batters to the plate in the first inning and scored 11 runs. The offensive output was sparked by RBIs from Justin Sewell, Jordan Burns, Ryan Koonce, Michael Post, Derek Vickers and Trey Bradley.  Mayflower added another run in the fourth on hits by Sewell and Tyler Herrin and one in the fifth on an RBI by Bradley.

Austin Grundy (2-0) recorded the victory while holding the Owls scoreless and striking out four. Justin Sewell went 3 for 4 with three RBI. The Eagles will face St. Joseph, Conway in the semi final matchup.
