Arch J. Troxell of Greenbrier has received a promotion in the soil conservation service, it was announced today by J.E. Critz, project manager of the East Cadron soil conservation project.

Mr. Troxell, who has been serving as assistant soil conservationist at the Heber Springs CCC camp, was appointed soil conservationist district leader for the East Central district, attached to the East Cadron project. The East Central district includes approximately 750,000 acres in Cleburne, White, Pulaski, Lonoke and Prairie counties and also Cypress and Wilson townships of Faulkner County. Mr. Troxell is expected to enter upon his new duties within a few days. His headquarters have not as yet been definitely determined, Mr. Critz said.

Lynn Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis C. Thompson, has been chosen the outstanding member of the Phi Delta Chapter of Delta Beta Sigma sorority.

Miss Thompson, a straight-A student, is a Conway High School junior. She is a member of numerous school organizations.

Miss Thompson attended the DBS conventional last summer in Biloxi, Miss., and will attend the event again this summer to compete with 12 other DBS outstanding members for national honors.

A birthday celebration for County Judge Gerald Ward of Conway and Clarence Nicholson of Damascus was held recently at the Damascus community building. Out-of-town guests attending the party were Ann Welcher and Lillian Rowell, both of Morrilton; Joe, Diane, Misti and Josh Ward, Calvin, Reba and Bridget Ward, Ken, Carol, Lori and Lance Gipson, Betty Graham and Kenya Ward, all of Bee Branch; Blanche Hartwick and Alma Lea and Tommy Stephens, all of Little Rock; and Frances and Calvin Ward and Richard and Bertha Ward, all of Clinton.

The Greenbrier Panthers fourth-grade basketball team recently won the Beebe Invitational. They placed third in a tournament at Fayetteville and fourth in another tournament at Arkansas-Little Rock. Team members are Dustin Boone, Bo McConnell, Kirby Hillis, Austin Aunderson, Jon Mark Rowden, Trent Virden, Chase Lear, Ryan Short, Jordan Clark, Josh Bowden, and Coaches Tim Hillis and Terry Virden.
