The Sideline: Mayflower girls advance in district tournament

LITTLE ROCK — The Mayflower senior Lady Eagles won their first game Wednesday at the district tournament at Episcopal Collegiate High School.

The Lady Eagles defeated Benton Harmony Grove, 39-33.

LonJanae Wyatt led the team in scoring with 10 points. Jucarla Harper had nine points. Bailey Camp scored eight points.

Greenbrier teams
lose to Harrison

Harrison swept Greenbrier in two varsity basketball games Wednesday.

The Goblins won the boys game, 66-25, and the girls game, 45-43.

UCA sweeps UAPB
in softball

The University of Central Arkansas softball mercy-ruled Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a softball doubleheader Wednesday with the two games taking a total of 10 innings at Farris Field.

The Bears won the first game, 8-0, and the second, 17-2.

Kelsie Armstrong allowed one hit over five innings in the second game. Sam Forrest, the Southland Conference’s hitter of the week last week, had a hit, two RBI and scored two runs. Melanie Bryant had a hit and three RBI.

Lindsay Elliot had two hits and three RBI for the Bears (4-2) in the first game. Sarah Bejei had a home run, two hits and drove in four runs. Sam Forrest had two hits. Melissa and Melanie Bryant and Ashley Boswell also had two hits in UCA’s 16-hit attack. Ciari Clampit allowed three hits in picking up the win.

The games against the Golden Lions (0-4), originally scheduled for Pine Bluff, were moved to UCA because of field conditions.

UCA will play Ole Miss, Jackson State and South Alabama this weekend in a tournament at Mobile, Ala.

Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports regional tournaments begin April 28

JACKSONVILLE – Student athletes from across Arkansas will gather at the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation Shooting Sports Complex in Jacksonville each weekend, beginning April 28, to take their shots at the regional and state championship tournaments of the Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program.
