Hendrix’s Kriesl-Bigler gets national honor

Hendrix College freshman guard Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler was named to D3Hoops.com Team of the Week on Tuesday.

The Austin, Texas native, also selected as Southern Athletic Association Player of the Week, averaged 24.0 points, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game as the Warriors won back-to-back games for the first time this season.

In Friday’s win against Oglethorpe, Kriesel-Bigler tied the school record with eight 3-pointers, en route to a season-high 29 points. She also dished out five assists and had three steals against the Lady Petrels. Kriesel-Bigler followed up with 19 points, five assists and a steal in Sunday’s win against Berry. On the weekend, she shot 42.5 percent (17-of-40) from the field, 47.8 percent (11-of-23) from three-point range and 100 percent (3-of-3) from the free throw line.

UCA’s Horsikyan gets tennis award

University of Central Arkansas junior Simona Horsikyan has earned Southland Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors.

Horsikyan, a Kardzhali, Bulgaria native, led the Bears to back-to-back home wins, going 4-0 against Murray State and North Alabama.

The junior defeated Ashley Canty of Murray State 6-4, 6-3, in No. 1 singles action before pairing up with teammate Sasha Ruocco to win in No. 2 doubles against Megan Blue and Erin Patton, 8-5. Horsikyan duplicated her 6-4, 6-3, victory in No. 1 singles play against North Alabama’s Mackenzie Bishop. She and Ruocco teamed up to thwart Bruna Vieira and Teresa Franco, 8-3

Harding sweeps Hendrix in tennis

The Hendrix College women’s tennis team lost its spring opener to Harding University, 9-0, at home on Monday afternoon.

The host Warriors’ (0-3) top singles team of senior Arden Brazzeal and freshman Madison Schallhorn lost to the Lady Bisons’ (2-2) duo of Benyapa Phumptip and Greenbrier’s Ali Rowden, 8-0. Junior Saranya Prathibha and sophomore Hannah Smashey fell to Katie Huff and Chelsea Lanier 8-1 at the second spot.

Hendrix will take on John Brown University at Burns Park in North Little Rock on Friday.

Conway soccer intrasquad game postponed

Conway High’s Blue-White intrasquad soccer scrimmage, scheduled for Tuesday night, has been postponed because of inclement weather.

It will be rescheduled at a later date.
