The Guy home demonstration club met Thursday, Feb. 3, with Mrs. Tom Mode. A pot-luck dinner was served at the noon hour, there being 30 present to enjoy the dinner. The demonstration agent, Mrs. Dora Stubblefield, was present and gave a demonstration on rug making. Plans were made for a supper, which will be Feb. 28, at the home economics cottage. The next meeting will be Thursday, March 3, with Mrs. Howard Kessinger.

Lt. (jg) Bill Byrd Jones, serving aboard the USS destroyer Kenneth D. Bailey, is spending a leave in Barcelona, Spain, and expects to be home for a visit after “one more port call,” he advised relatives here.

Lt. Byrd is a son of W.C. (Bill) Jones and a grandson of Mrs. Frank E. Robins of Conway.

Vicky Cox of Enola will appear in the ensemble of Arkansas State University at Beebe’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors,” which opens at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in the University Theatre.

Will Sukraw, 4, of Conway tried to emulate his sister Mattie, 6, on the monkey bars at Laurel Park Tuesday afternoon. Will was able to hang onto the bars, with just a little help from his mother Robin. Mattie added that she has been playing on the monkey bars since she was 4 years old.

Arkansas lawmakers advance junk food ban for food stamps

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas would ban food stamps from being used to purchase soda or junk food under a proposal endorsed by a legislative committee Tuesday, joining a list of Republican-led states hopeful the Trump administration will allow such restrictions to the federal program.

Wal-Mart to add about 10,000 retail jobs in the US

NEW YORK — Wal-Mart plans to add about 10,000 retail jobs in the U.S. as it opens new stores and expands existing locations. The world’s biggest retailer said Tuesday that its plans will also generate about 24,000 construction jobs.
