Robert Black, Arkansas State Teachers College student and a son of Mr. and Mrs. E.T. Black of Conway, will leave Feb. 18 for Fort Benning, Ga., where he will attend an Army communications school from Feb. 21 to May 27. Black, a sergeant to Headquarters company, Second battalion, Arkansas National Guard, will be the only Arkansan to attend the school. Only one man from each state was selected.

Gerald Cound, State Teachers track star, will receive the Neil Gibson Martin trophy during halftime ceremonies of the Teachers-Hendrix game here Tuesday night.
The award is symbolic of the state’s outstanding amateur athlete in 1962.
Cound won the half-mile in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics meet last year, and holds the Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference mile and 880-yard records.

Mary Guyer of Vilonia, recently was named to an academic honor list at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville for achieving a 4.0 grade point average for the fall 1987 semester.
Miss Guyer is a senior majoring in food service. She is a 1981 graduate of Vilonia High School.

Target is coming to Conway, one of four anchor stores in Conway Commons, the new shopping center set on 80 acres in east Conway that was the Elsinger dairy farm.
A spokesman in charge of new store construction for Target Corp. in Minneapolis confirmed Monday that a Target Store is scheduled to open in Conway in July 2004.
Other stores named as anchors are Kohl’s, Belk and Home Depot. Calls to their corporate offices were not returned.
