The Sideline: Conway softball fundraiser, Hendrix lacrosse recruit

CHS softball fundraiser Saturday

The Conway High School softball team and parents will sponsor a “Pick A Pitcher” fundraiser starting at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lady Cat Field.

Proceeds from the event will go toward a new tarp. The one currently used by the Lady Cats is a hand-me-down and well worn. Funds are also needed for a concession stand and batter bags.

It’s an opportunity for Conway fans and the general public to test themselves in a fast pitch softball setting. Under the format for the event, the public is asked to pay $1 per pitch to bat against any player of the Lady Cats’ fast pitch team of his choosing.

There will also be a silent auction and an open concession.

Further information can be obtained from Vicky Shaw, 336-4441.

Hendrix gets lacrosse commitment

Carson Boone of Allen, Texas, will be joining the Hendrix College men’s lacrosse team for the 2013-14 academic year.

The 6-foot-1, 160-pound attacker is a four-year varsity letterman for Allen High School and has led or been in the top three on his team in total points every season. Boone earned all-district Division I honorable mention as a sophomore and was selected to Texas Top 99 as a sophomore and junior. He was also invited to play with Team Dallas and with Coast to Coast Black, a prestigious summer travel team. Boone will serve as captain this season and is eligible for Academic All-American consideration with a 3.94 cumulative gradepoint average.
