Dr. Mary McKinney entertained the Book Review Club Saturday evening at her apartment on Ash Street. A dainty supper was served. Special guests were Miss Holiman and Miss Evie Shaw. Miss Mattie Sanders reviewed a book for the occasion.

50 years ago

(1963)

Army Pvt. David M. Pate, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oney M. Pate, Quitman, recently was assigned to the 1st Division’s 12th Cavalry in Korea.

Pate, a combat engineer in the cavalry’s Co. B, received basic training at Fort Chaffee.

The 17-year-old soldier attended Quitman High School.

Steve and Jerri Clark of Lonoke are parents of a son, Steven Tyler, born Tuesday (Feb. 2, 1988) at Doctors Hospital. The baby weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces. Grandparents are Edgar and Frances Clark of Conway and J.T. and Melba Richardson of Holly Grove (Monroe County). The baby’s great-grandparents are Mrs. J.T. Richardson Sr. of Holly Grove and Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Dickinson of Searcy. The couple have another son, Justin, 5.

Most of the school districts in Faulkner County closed and cautious motorists slowed to a snail’s pace Thursday as up to two inches of snow fell in Conway.

Every school in Faulkner County was closed Thursday except for the 8,102-student Conway School District. More than 100 of the state’s school districts shuttered their schools because of the winter weather.
