High school piano pupils of Mrs. Lillard Bolls’ school of music were presented in the second series of recitals in the high school auditorium last night. Each pianist played a group of compositions. The program was varied and well rendered.

Hendrix College will celebrate homecoming Saturday.
Highlights of the day will include a convocation of students and alumni in Staples Auditorium at 11 a.m., a basketball game between Hendrix and Arkansas Tech at 3 p.m., and a dance in Hulen Hall at 8 o’clock.
Mrs. Darlene Sevier Smith, a senior of Fordyce, will be crowned homecoming queen during the morning convocation.

Joe Thompson, a former coach at Greenbrier, pet Abe, a 5-year-old blue tick hound who recently won a world championship coon dog title at Unadilla, Ga. The contest was sponsored by the American Coon Hunter Association. Abe has won several titles in contests throughout the country, including the top Grand Knight designation by the UKC and the Knight award by the coon hunters association.

Mayflower High School students cheered Wednesday as a pair of teammates signed national football letters of intent.
Herb Grigsby, the 5-fot-11, 165-pound wide receiver/defensive back who was the Log Cabin Democrat’s Faulkner County Player of the Year, signed to play for the Iowa Hawkeyes, who played in the 2003 Orange Bowl.
Jonathan Jones, the 6-0, 175-pound tailback/safety, signed with Arkansas Tech.
The signing, the third in coach George Jones’ 20 seasons at Mayflower, marked the first time two Eagles signed.
