(1938)

The mythical groundhog, whose annual emergence on Feb. 2, according to legend, governs weather conditions the ensuing six weeks, had a chance to see his shadow today, but he had to get out early. The sun rose clear, but the skies were soon covered with clouds, which thickened as the hours passed.

50 years ago

(1963)

Cecil’s, as tore at 1106 Oak St., specializing in fabrics, lingerie and women’s accessories, plans to move to a new location next week.

Cecil Moix, owner, said the store will occupy the W.B. Thines building at 810 Front St., which was vacated this week by Allied Sales Co. allied moved to 504 Oak St.

The Front Street building was remodeled several months ago.

Moix said the move may depend on the weather, but he hopes to complete the change by next weekend.

Moix has operated his store at the Oak Street address for five years.

(1988)

Two Faulkner County students were named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, according to Tom Moore, director of news and information services at ASU.

Jim M. Wilcox of Conway and Brian K. Wiedower of Greenbrier were named to the list for ranking in the top five percent of students in their respective colleges and completing a minimum of 12 academic hours.

Bob Lilly has joined the Conway branch of A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc. as a financial consultant. He and his wife Susan and their two children have lived in Conway about 10 years. They are members of Antioch Baptist Church.
