Presidents of the colleges in Conway are among 400 representatives of American and foreign colleges and universities invited to attend the formal inauguration of Dr. Oliver C. Carmichael as chancellor of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 5.

50 years ago

(1963)

Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Shock and their children, Mike, Shannon, Adair and Randy, recently moved to a home purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Lasley at 1904 Robinson Ave. The Shocks formerly resided at 1717 Duncan St.

The Robinson Avenue home contains five bedrooms.

Dr. John Churchill, vice president for academic affairs and dean of Hendrix College, is one of 21 members recently appointed by Gov. Bill Clinton to the state Commission on Teaching Excellence.

Churchill’s term will expire in July.

Jennifer Mobley helped her 14-month-old daughter Kenley down one of the slides at Laurel Park on Saturday. The warm afternoon temperatures lured many people to enjoy a break from the winter weather.
