(1938)

County Agricultural Agent E.D. Bell announced today the state extension service had transferred Wayne Tillman from Crawford County to Faulkner County as assistant farm agent. Mr. Tillman was due to report here today.

Thomas J. Silvey, assistant here since July 1, was transferred to Washington County with headquarters at Fayetteville.

Mr. Tillman, a graduate of the University of Arkansas, was located in Madison County several months prior to his transfer to Crawford County.

(1963)

The doctors in Modena, Italy, said a severe case of influenza was making 4-year-old Maria Christina Bertoni feel bad. Her parents insisted on an X-ray.

One look at the X-ray plates and Maria Christina was rushed to the local hospital Wednesday. A surgeon removed a small electric light bulb from one lung and said afterward she was getting along fine.

Debra Nelson of Conway cradled her newborn son, Arsenio Demond Nelson, yesterday morning at Conway Regional Hospital. Arsenio Demond arrived at 2:04 a.m. Friday and was the first baby born in Faulkner County in the new year. His father is Willie Nelson. Grandparents are William and Rosetta Burford of La Grange (Lee County) and Emma Nelson of Helena. Great-grandparents are William L. and Ethel Lee Burford of La Grange and Junior and Ethel Seward of Palestine (St. Francis County).

The Conway Optimist Club honored Guy-Perkins High School seniors Jennifer Holbrook and Andrew Humphrey as its Optimist Teens of the Month for December.

Jennifer, 17, is the daughter of Brad and Laura Holbrook of Greenbrier. She plans to attend the University of Central Arkansas to major in vocal and piano music.

Andrew, 17, is the son of Robert and Norma Humphrey. He plans to attend the University of Central Arkansas and major in biology and chemistry.
