A week into December the Community Christmas Card is at $3,000. Names are more than 1,100.
The response to this year’s Community Christmas Card, a fundraising effort headed by the Log Cabin Democrat to benefit local students, has been high.
“Seeing the giving spirit so alive this early is inspiring. The work is far from done, though,” said Log Cabin Publisher Alan English.
Last year’s record total was more than $26,000. All contributions are divided up among area school counselors, who use the unrestricted funds to help students in need of supplies, medical visits, clothing or other immediate need.
The families of students also benefit when counselors offer assistance after a home fire or to pay an electricity bill after a job loss.
Donors who give $1 or more to the fund can include their own name or names of their choice in the card printed in the Dec. 25, Christmas Day edition of the Log Cabin Democrat.
Names and donations for the Community Christmas Card will be taken at the Log Cabin Democrat office at 1111 Main St., Suite 102 in Federal Plaza in Conway.
To donate by mail, send names and donations to Community Christmas Card, P.O. Box 969, Conway, AR 72033.
