The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary met Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Charles Tanner on Clifton Street. Christmas decorations were used throughout the interior and impressive installation services, inducting the new officers, were conducted by Mrs. Shelly Rice of Lonoke, departmental president. At the social hour Mrs. Tanner served a dainty salad course with coffee and fruit cake.

50 years ago

(1962)

Mrs. William J. Thomas has resigned her position as assistant vice president of First State Bank to become manager of the new Sands Restaurant on Highway 64 east.

Mrs. Thomas, the former Jane Baker, joined the bank when it was organized in 1946. At the bank she was in charge of the note department.

The new restaurant, which opened this week, is located in connection with the Sands Motel.

(1987)

Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Van Pelt and son, Jon Paul, of Temple, Texas, returned home after spending the Thanksgiving holiday with Mr. Van Pelt’s mother, Ann Van Pelt, his brother, Tony Van Pelt, and family, his sister, Debby Williams, and family, and other relatives in Conway.
