LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Talk-show host Montel Williams is visiting Arkansas to campaign in favor of a ballot measure to legalize medical marijuana.
Williams plans an appearance Thursday at the Capitol alongside members of Arkansans for Compassionate Care, which gathered signatures to place the measure on the November ballot.
Williams suffers from multiple sclerosis and says he uses medical marijuana to treat symptoms of his condition.
The measure would allow patients with qualifying conditions to buy marijuana from nonprofit dispensaries with a doctor's recommendation. If approved, Arkansas would become the first Southern state to legalize medical marijuana.
The Arkansas Supreme Court upheld the proposal last month after a coalition of conservative groups asked the court to block the proposal from the ballot.

Oh my back hurts too!!!!
well
if freaking tobacco cigarettes are legal, why not marijuana.
I'm guessing tobacco has killed far more smokers and second-hand smokers than marijuana ever could.
Which raises the question...
...if UCA, hospitals, etc. ban smoking on their property, will they also ban the smoking of medical marijuana (if this act passes)?
If so, could the institution be held liable as they are denying the person the use of his/her "medication"?
interesting question
probably would have to have a med mj ward for those people.
the answer to unemployment
The employee turnover in that ward would be ZERO! The doctors and nurses would spend long hours in each patient's room, breathing deeply while documenting on the patient's charts . . . even the janitors would do a thorough job of cleaning each room, taking as much time as possible. and everyone would have a silly grin on their face!
not just smoked
You can ingest marijuana as a cooked product (brownies, cookies, etc.) or it can be vaporized which produced no smoke.
But...
...the proposed Act does not limit the method (cooked product, lotion, smoking, etc.) of taking the medication.
So, if a college student lives in a dorm (without access to an oven to cook the brownies), doesn't have a means to vaporize the drug, and it is not in lotion form, then can the university deny them the use of the product under their smoking ban?
Dispensary
I'm sure the licensed dispensaries would have items for sale - brownies, cakes, etc.
If the college student lives
If the college student lives in a dorm, the college is his landlord and could prohibit smoking, yes. As to not having access to other methods, vaporizing would be available because its a small item they purchase to vaporize the plant matter, its more of an inhaler than what you're probably thinking of.
I love that you asked this
I love that you asked this question because it is an issue that I have not thought of before. Lets hear some solutions on this.
