Police Beat 10-18

Posted: October 17, 2012 - 8:03pm

Among reports recently released by the Conway Police Department:

• A biology professor with the University of Central Arkansas contacted police on Tuesday after he discovered someone had stolen turtle nets belonging to the university from Lake Carol-Dan at 1300 Padgett Road. According to a police report, students set the nets in the water on Monday, and when he returned to check the nets on Tuesday afternoon, they were missing. The man said a total of five nets and their poles had been taken from the lake. The case is active and ongoing.

• An employee of Russo’s Coal-Fired Italian Kitchen contacted police on Tuesday to report that someone had called the restaurant requesting bond money for another employee. The man said the caller claimed to be an employee of the Faulkner County detention center and was requesting a money order in the amount of $1,708 to free another employee from jail. The man said he thought it sounded suspicious and called the allegedly-detained employee, who answered the phone and told the man she had not been arrested. The call was placed from a blocked phone number, but the employee used *69 to call the number back, which returned to (501) 548-4340. The man was advised to contact police if he received any other similar phone calls.

Lake Carol-Dan

Unpublished

Is this what was formerly known as Spencer Lake and was private and now it is public access.
Used to be some HUGE bass in that lake when you had to pay old lady Spencer to fish the then private lake.

Lake Carol-Dan

BuzzBy....wrong. Lake Carol-Dan is private. You must have permission from the owner to step foot on the property. Please do not spread inaccurate information.

Au Contraire!!

Unpublished

There is a public rd and a creek that runs into the lake making a public access. As long as you enter by water and leave by water you do not set one foot on anyones property.
Check with AG&F for rules and regs.

According to the Interwebs,

According to the Interwebs, one of the new development roads right next to Carol-Dan is called Spencer Lake road. I grew up right next to that lake but I don't ever remember hearing it called Spencer Lake. Or at least, not that I can remember.

Regardless, I believe Carol-Dan is still surrounded by private property and I've always been envious of those who could fish it. I don't know the specific rules and regulations regarding right of ways on bodies of water in Arkansas.

It's getting encroached by a lot of development so I'm sure the owners are getting quite weary of people fishing it without permission. I'd love to be able to get permission to it, even if it meant keeping an eye out for those trespassing or cleaning up its shorelines every so often, but I don't know any of the property owners and I'm not just going to walk up the driveway.

It's really sad when a nice lake/pond gets abused by those who don't have the courtesy to be mindful of property rights and becomes overfished and worthless.

easy

The guy who owns the lake is Stewart McConnell. His name and phone number are on the billboard advertising lots around the lake. The billboard is right by the lake on Padgett Road.
