Walk, balloon release to honor tiny loved ones

Posted: October 5, 2012 - 6:09pm

The fifth annual Walk to Remember will be held today at Conway High School Football Stadium.

The walk is sponsored by the Conway Regional Perinatal Bereavement program in honor of infants lost prior to and immediately after being born. Check in will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a remembrance ceremony at 11 a.m.

Andrew Cole, MD, a Conway obstetrician/gynecologist, will speak about the relationship between bereaved parents and their physicians. During the ceremony a balloon will be released as the name of each baby is read unless otherwise requested by the parents. The walk will begin immediately after the ceremony. A complimentary meal will be served after the walk is completed.

All members of families that have experienced a pregnancy loss are invited to the walk.

“We want this to be a very meaningful event that will help families remember their loved ones,” said Kristi Weider, Coordinator of the Perinatal Bereavement Program.

There is no cost to participate in the walk; however, contributions to benefit the Perinatal Bereavement Program are welcomed and appreciated.

The bereavement program is designed to address each family’s individual needs through supportive care in the hospital as well as follow-up care.
