Greenbrier Jr. High EAST students, Sara Hoopchuk and Caroline Harrod will partner with the Greenbrier Police Department to collect unused prescription drugs from 10-2 today [29th].
The event is at the Greenbrier Police Department, 11 Wilson Farm Road. Students are trying to help bring awareness to the amount of prescription drugs used by teens today, according to a news release.
Scott Spainhour, Greenbrier Superintendent said, “Studies show prescription drug abuse to be one of the fastest growing epidemics among teenagers today. It is vitally important that we protect our kids from the dangers of prescription drug abuse in any way that we can.”
Students created a video and brochures to educate community members about the drugs that are most widely abused by teens.
The prescription drugs residents can turn in may be any kind of unused drug, including out-of-date prescriptions. Disposing of these drugs also help protect the environment.
