Gossage to participate in special weekend at UCA

Baseball Hall of Fame relief pitcher Goose Goosage will be in Conway this weekend for a series of events to benefit the University of Central Arkansas baseball program.

The events, with proceeds benefitting the UCA Baseball Foundation, will be held in conjunction with the Bears’ series against Northwestern State, which begins Friday.

Thursday, Goosage will be a part of a tailgate party and silent auction at 6 p.m. at Bear Stadium. The $20 adult admission includes live entertainment and a meet-and-greet photo opportunity with Gossage. Free food will be provided by various restaurants and businesses, There will also be games for the kids and door prizes. Youngsters 12 and under will be admitted free.

Silent auction items will be available throughout the night, including New York Yankee items and tickets to a St. Cardinals game.

For Friday’s series opener against Northwestern State, it will be Family Fireworks Night at the ballpark featuring Gossage. The baseball game will begin at 6:30 p.m. Gossage will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Free commemorative Goose Gossage T-shirts will be given to the first 200 fans. He will be signing autographed copies of his new book for fans with purchase. The fireworks will begin shortly at the end of the game.

A Breakfast of Champions will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday at New Life Church. A $30 ticket includes one adult and one children. Additional children are $10. Breakfast will be provided and sponsored by Waffle House. All youngsters 14 and under will receive a goodie bag that includes an autographed baseball, coupons and other prizes. Gossage, who entered the baseball Hall of Fame in 2008, will address all participants on his experiences of playing in Major League Baseball.
