An automobile occupied by Coach Jerry Dalrymple and five Arkansas State Teachers College basketball players, returning to Conway last night from Bellefonte, where the Bears played two games yesterday, was sideswiped by a car driven by a Marshall man, and both machines were wrecked. Tom Kincannon sustained cuts about the face that required seven stitches to close and others in Coach Dalrymple’s car were badly bruised and suffered minor cuts. The accident occurred about 10’clock between Harrison and Marshall. The injured boys spent the night at Marshall and the others came to Conway in two other cards, with other players making the trip. With the coach besides Kincannon were Elmer Curry, Elvin Tyson, Bill Magness and Louis Mills. Both cars skidded 30 or 40 feet after the collision, but neither overturned. Three men in the Marshall care escaped serious injury. Both machines were almost demolished.

A miscellaneous shower honoring Mrs. Frank Brannan Jr., the former Miss Esther Grayson of Bald Knob, was given at the home of Mrs. Coy Turner with Mrs. Sam Carter and Mrs. Harold Eidson serving as co-hostesses. A valentine theme was carried out in all decorations and games. The bride discovered her gifts by following a red ribbon to the shower door, which was covered with a huge white heart and inscribed, “where else would you expect to find a shower?” Inside were numerous gifts. Cranberry punch, nuts, mints, and cake were served to 40 guests. Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Grayson, Jr., of Bald Knob. The hostesses were assisted by Misses Sammye Kaye Carter, Susan Edison and Patsy Turner.

Vesta Harrison, 90, talked about her life in the south to her friends at Heritage Center. She was the only known surviving daughter of an Arkansas Confederate soldier. Her father, William Grave Long, who served at Shiloh, Corinth and Tupelo, was 14 years old when the Civil War began in 1861. He volunteered for service. Mrs. Harrison had been a resident of the Heritage Center since 1996. Her health was satisfactory. Bob Courtway Middle School established a student council to give students a taste of campaigning, elections and representing their classmates. The faculty sponsor was Anita Cegars Coleman. Leslie Bennefeld was elected president; Jonathon Davis, vice-president; Chelsea Rendleman, secretary and Aaron Knight, treasurer. Others elected were Katie Merrell, Bethany Norman, Candace Stewart, Samuel George, Jay Woods, Shawn Hartley, Jessica Fuller, Paula Verser, Tanner Garrett, Brittany Hervey, Sarah Willenbrink, Luke Crane and Megan Maxwell.
