Eight eighth-graders from Conway schools will be honored with the 2010 Marvin Delph Student-Athlete Awards.
The awards, to be presented in conjunction with the Marvin Delph and Elihan Pitts achievement awards, are given by the Conway Athletic Awards commission to one boy and one girl in the eighth grade from each of Conway’s schools for athletic and academic achievement and citizenship.
This year’s recipients are: Alyssa Strickland and A.J. Burton from Bob Courtway Middle School; Jada Benton and Sidney Moore from Carl Stuart Middle School; Rachel Briggler and Landon Enderlin from St. Joseph Catholic School; and Madison Leach and Chandler Ferrand from Conway Christian School.
Former Hendrix basketball coach Cliff Garrison will be honored with the 2009 Elijah Pitts Award for career achievement. Hendrix baseball standout Daniel Ward will be honored with the 2009 Marvin Delph Award for male sportsman of the year while UCA volleyball star Chloe Smith will be honored with the Marvin Delph Award for female sportsman of the year.
All awards will be presented Feb. 4 at a dinner at University of Central Arkansas’ McCastlain Hall beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 and are available by calling 450-6888 or e-mailing davidg@amcins.com.
