The St. Jopseh basketball teams continued their winning ways Monday night with a pair of victories over Southside Batesville.
The Bulldogs (6-2) started strong and hung on for a 50-36 win. The St. Joseph girls, who remained unbeaten at 8-0, took a 42-28 win.
The St. Joseph teams will return to action at Dover tonight.
BOYS
St. Joseph built a 19-6 lead after the first quarter and stayed in front the rest of the game. However, things got a little closer than Bulldogs coach Brent Bruich was hoping to see.
“We had a great first quarter,” Bruich said. “Our intensity, especially on the defensive end, was not what it needed to be after the first quarter. We can’t let teams hang around like we did tonight.
“It will come back to bite us later on.”
Tyler Jones led St. Joseph with 18 points and five steals. Marcus Kordsmeier finished with 12 points, six assists and four steals. Wade Beck added seven points and five rebounds, while Zach Hambuchen grabbed six rebounds.
GIRLS
Kelsey Davidson’s 20-point effort helped the Lady Bulldogs pick up their eighth straight win.
St. Joseph led just 10-6 after the first quarter and took a 19-13 lead into halftime. From there, the Lady Bulldogs were able to keep their distance.
“We are looking for more consistency on the offensive end of the court,” St. Joseph coach Chris Kordsmeier said. “The girls are continuing to give great effort on the defensive end.”
Heather Moix added eight points and 10 rebounds, while Amy Schichtl and Courtney Briggler had five and four points, respectively. Jessie Moix chipped in five assists and five steals. Brooke Enderlin added five rebounds and five steals.
GREENBRIER BOYS
The Greenbrier Panthers suffered their second defeat of the season with a 54-44 loss to Riverview on Monday night.
Bogie Webb had 17 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Panthers (1-2). Jordan Crank also scored 17 points.
Greenbrier will return to action next Monday in the Little Rock Mills tournament.
MAYFLOWER
The Mayflower senior girls defeated Bigelow 51-19 on Monday night.
The Lady Eagles (1-1) jmped out to a 16-0 lead before taking the win. Kerri Fortson led with 15 points, and Olivia Gray had 10.
Bigelow won the senior boys game 56-37 Jordan Dycus led the Eagles with 13 points.
In the junior girls game, Bigelow won 40-21. Jessica Webb led the Junior Lady Eagles with nine points.
GREENBRIER JUNIOR GIRLS
ATKINS — Greenbrie’s junior girls finished third Saturday in the Atkins Junior Invitational basketball tournament with a 49-27 victory over Wonderview.
The Lady Panthers were led by Bailey Reynolds with 21 points. Samantha Smith and Aundrea Hardin had six points apiece. K.C. Wrightam and Taylor Atkinson added five and four points, respectively.
