WASHINGTON — Laura Hicky completed U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln’s (D-Ark.) summer internship program in her Washington, D.C., Senate office.
Hicky is a senior at the University of Central Arkansas at Conway majoring in marketing and interior design. She is the daughter of Marilyn and Walt Cullum of Conway, formerly of Wynne, and Preston Hicky of Forrest City.
“Giving young students an opportunity to serve the state through my Senate offices is one of the great joys of my job,” Lincoln said. “Congressional internships allow students to experience firsthand the behind-the-scenes workings of the federal legislative branch.”
Over the course of the five-week program, Hicky was exposed to various facets of the federal government and our nation’s legislative process. She worked closely with Lincoln’s legislative team, researching pending bills and attending hearings. Hicky also aided Lincoln’s constituent services staff by conducting U.S. Capitol tours for visiting Arkansans, as well as assisted the communications office.
Lincoln’s internship program gives students who have completed their sophomore year in college an opportunity to learn about the federal legislative process, improve their communications skills and gain experience in a professional environment.
