One of the busiest places at the Arkansas Children’s Colony was the beauty shop. Seventy-four girls visited the shop once a week, and the number increased each day. The beauty shop was equipped by the Arkansas Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association Inc., and volunteer members of the organization had staffed the beauty shop four days each week. Ruthel Hutchinson of Conway had advanced the idea of the state association equipping and maintaining the beauty shop. The idea had worked almost to perfection with all volunteer workers being Conway residents. Now, more volunteer help was needed. It was hoped more Conway beauty operators would join the program. The shop was opened 24 hours each week. Plans were being made to add another hair dryer to the present equipment.
